Rhymes: The Highway

The cars' new,
the tank full,
a nice breeze blows,
and there is a song in the heart.
Its fun to ride on the highway.

Bumps on the road,
and a strong gale
do make the car sway.
Caution and focus do save the day.
Gosh, i do love to drive on this highway.

A heavy storm,
blows u away.
The cars coughs,
the tank leaks,
and the wind doesn't relent.
With each circle completed,
the tank does get depleted
Damn, do i hate this highway?

A compass is found,
a fuelling station just around!
The tank refilled and mended.
The car rolls,
the storm is friendly
and the heart sings a new beat
Yup, it is great to ride on the highway.

Self fulfilling prophecy, life, me

Hmm its described wonderfully here
Still i thot i will write about it so here is a brain dump, it is random and hazy, you have been warned;-).

The bone of contention is perception, your outlook towards life, your actions, your responses/reactions are all shaped by perceptions. So how do we seperate the absolute from what we perceive. So what is absolute. Hmm food for nourishment of body, physical health, mainly pertaining to the physical self. Wat else. What about happiness? Some ppl do not expect anything from life, learn to take everything in their stride, be happy, some are blissfully ignorant and are happy, some manage to find sadness anywhere, and some are lost in their own worlds, confused. Absolutes governing them are the same, but perceptions, approaches and attitudes, results differ.

Welll how important is satiation of the desires? Would they ever cease? I notice myself at my office sometimes, and whenever i hit upon a problem, i feel like running away from it and going to some fairy land, where there are no problems. Part of me tells me that i should do something more "fruitful", satisfying, and maybe something more intellectual, and a part tells me its all perception, so watz the point dude? In the recent past, i realized it was good to have some short term goals, the fullfillment of them gives satisfaction and pleasure, but is dat absolute? I guess a jehadi and a yogi have a similar state of mind, they are totally committed to a cause, and gain "satisfaction" from their endeavours, but the "civilised" world has vastly contrasting perceptions for these ppl. Deja vu.

Being in the present does give you a joy, but you do like to know, wat is it all for; where does it lead to, for wht purpose are the actions performed by me directed. Indecision, confusion, impatience, fear, desires reigns supreme in me sometimes. The most pleasant part of the day is when i drive down on my bike at break neck speed, skipping redlights, avoiding collisions. Being in the present does have its fun, i don't deny that.

Btw there was this joke that i read, if you put two piles of grass equi-distant from a donkey, it will starve itself to death. Somehow, it does not feel dat funny any more, the fact that it was funny seems funny.

Balance is dat the elusive word? Hmm food for thought. Enjoy life as it comes, avoid inner conflicts, fullfillment of desires, good health, hmm lets see, freedom from thought, and meaning of life?. Hmm.

Rhymes

I occasionally write stuff that ryhmes. Going at my past rate of 1 in a year, i should be upto something soon. Here goes or comes, watever:-)

Setting:B'day of a classmate@college.
May you age like old wine,
and every year bring a new sunshine
may your all wishes come true,
and life open new doors for you.
Doors with locks and girls with locks
may all succumb to your charms
and may your road ahead be far from forlon
Life is great coz everyone does seal his own fate
so may you enjoy the challenges that life throws
and may you be wise enough to realize which ones to let go
and in others may you fight with all your might
and become better and better by learning from hindsight
and success shall not be far from thee
and hence my friend may you shape your own destiny

Setting: A new year far away from home and friends
things come and go
for good or bad,
we have grown older,
for this i am sad,
another year has gone by,
a new one stands in the womb,
ready to lay the previous one in its tomb,
that is how life is,
new things come and old things go
May we be as graceful in adapting to change
accepting new things without disdain
letting go of our fears,
wiping out our tears
by drinking lots of beer,
for beer is a wonderful thing.
it does make our head spin,
and brings us closer to Him,
for a drunkard is a true person,
one who does not lie,
and holds a special place in His eye.
So have lots of beer,
here is wishing you a Happy New Year

Emotions and life

What is the role of emotions in our life? They make us happy, sad, fill us with glee, rage and the like. You get used to some of the emotions and start craving for them.

According to one school of thought, it is not good to be emotional, because emotions are not "realistic" enuff. They work in their own world and the clash between that world and realistic world leads to problems for the host. These problems always remain because your wants grow faster than the real world can provide them. But imagining a life without emotions is also not easy. Wat do you live for? Isn't the need for recognition, the feeling of elation upon accomplishment of doing something worthwhile(etc, etc) an emotion in itself?
Getting attached to eating "tasty" stuff isn't dat an emotion, i just want to eat a veg mc aloo ticki burger coz it tastes good. It makes your eating experience nice, but might not be very good for the physical self.

Another school of thought says that disregarding emotions is not the right way. At various points of time in life, you go through various "emotional" cycles, it is nice to experience those emotions and fulfill them. As they get fulfilled, others will arise, this satiation of different emotions at the time of their arousal is the key to "healthy" living. But even dat is not also not possible, you live in a world that is shaped by powers other than ur mind and your mind cannot influence external entities to make this always possible. Sometimes the result is severe and you get trapped in an emotional cycle dat takes some coming out of. Is dat also an experience to be worth had?

Both the theories are consistent with themselves, but none of them seems to be a clear winner. The former gurantees peace of mind irrespective of the world outside and the second provides you an "exciting" life. The trick seems to be to use a balance of both worlds(is the search for absolutes an emotion of the logical mind, isn't balance a compromise and hence vulgar, or is the term compromise too cliched hmm, digressing too much here)

One more aspect to the puzzle is living in the present, past and the future. It is said that worries are not in the present, but only in the future and the past. If you live in the present and totally focus on the task at hand, there is no more rewarding experience than the relaxation that comes as a result. But even excesses of this are harmful as you might not be aware of the side effects of your actions, while you focus on the task at hand. It might be too late to remedy the affect of these effects when you realize them. A corollary to this is that philosophers are never happy and the very act of observing changes the system, and hence confounding efforts for arriving at a solution(Heisenberg's law comes to mind)

A common benchmark that is used to determine "happiness" is that of a child. He shouts and cries when he needs to and is happy and content when well fed. What is it that we are missing that the child is not? I guess he is very clear about what he/she wants, while we get overwhelmed by the world around us and the preachers who tell us what we want. He lives in the present and is happy.

I guess then the trick is to stay mostly in the present experiencing as much of the present as you can and being emotional about the present if you want to and be in some kind of equilibrium with your sorroundings.
